Pippi moves into in a house at the edge of a Swedish village with a horse, a monkey, a suitcase full of gold, and no grown-ups to tell her what to do. Pippi Longstocking has no parents around and no rules to follow. She's been treating her friends Tommy and Annika to wild adventures, too, like buying and eating seventy-two pounds of candy, or sailing off to an island in the middle of a lake to see what it's like to be shipwrecked. But then Pippi's long lost father returns, and she might have to leave Villa Villekulla.

Young Tommy and Anneka find a strange girl, Pippi Longstocking, has moved in on her own next door to them in their small Swedish town. They befriend the zany, superstrong Pippi and she takes them on all sorts of madcap adventures.

Pippi discovers that she is missing out on certain holidays because she doesn't go to school. She joins Annika and Tommy and attends the local school, much to the amusement of the other students and the dismay of the teacher.

Fed up with their parents' rules, Pippi's friends decide to run away from home. They venture into the Swedish countryside with Pippi and her horse, encountering fun along the way.

While Pippi is sailing with her sea captain father, she is suddenly washed overboard and lost in a fierce storm. Pippi eventually drifts ashore to a small coastal town where she sets up house in an ancient vacated mansion. There, with her horse and monkey, Pippi begins a new life without any adult supervision.
